We had a great Halloween. It was nice to have a happy ending to an extremely challenging week. The fun ending started Friday with parties at both schools. Besta came to Ella's school party and Ella was so proud and so excited to have her there. Later in the afternoon we went to the boys' school where they were suppose to have a Trunk or Treat, but it was drizzling rain and cold so they moved it indoors. David has a crazy schedule, but last week was exceptionally busy, so when he told me he would be able to go to the boys' school I was elated! And so were the boys. He even wore a costume.
On Halloween, David's cousin Marty, his wife and their sweet son came over for our traditional meal of mummy dogs and tator tots and then trick or treating. They've come to our house for Halloween every year since we've moved to Omaha, and it's made the holiday more special. The boys started asking a month ago if their cousin Truman was coming for Halloween. My mom and her (and our) good friend Rose Mary also came for dinner. This year I decided to kick up the mummy dogs a little and I added bacon and cheese. I have to give credit to my dad, it was his suggestion that I add these two heart friendly ingredients. I also made these hot dogs with spaghetti and called them "guts." The kids liked them and they were very Halloween appropriate. I didn't take photos of any of the food... Maybe next year. And my photos of the little people are kind of terrible, but that's become a Halloween tradition for me too.
I made Sam's Mario costume. He was SO cute. He kept the mustache on for about five minutes, but it was at least long enough for this photo.
Ella was a pink Tinkerbell. We bought the wings two weeks ago and the first time she put them on she asked how she could fly. She really thought that the wings would make her fly. So, so sweet.
And here are all four goblins. Or should I say a monkey, Tinkerbell, Mario and a hunter. Charlie's costume was rather lame this year. And I take full responsibility. He wanted to be a hunter, so we bought a plastic gun (which he couldn't bring to school) and then we raided Uncle Willy's old hunting gear. He had a very cute camouflage hat, that he refused to wear. Oh well, there's always next year.
And now I sit here sick from mini candy bars but happy from these good times with family and very good friends. I'm hopeful for a less challenging week and looking forward to the next holiday.
